Abstract

The desk is a mess, but then it always is. Scattered hear and there on the top layer are Parrot’s new book (My life) on CUPW, La lettre dans tous ses états, an old McGill cap (my daughter won’t wear it) sundry notes, file folders (yellow and pink if you must know) and today’s Le Devoir with a horrible if graphic depiction of bodies and wrecks strewn about the streets of London. In this world capital, people of every stripe, colour and religion, including perhaps a few anarchists, perished in the blasts. Paris cringes with compassion and fear.

Au cas ou que vous aurez manqué le passage du train, nous voilà encore devant l’évidence que nous vivons dans un monde de plus en plus interdépendant, de plus en plus inter-vulnérable. Comment nous en sommes arrivés là? Sommes-nous réellement tous confiné au même vaisseau? (Who elected Noah anyway?) N’y a-t-il pas de bateaux de secours (where are the lifeboats?). Enfin voilà une belle opportunité pour nous de remettre en question les interprétations réductrices et ou manichéenes du genre « us and them » qui traversent comme barabas la presse quotidienne.
