Abstract

In the fall of 1974, the CHA Council accepted the recommendation of its Publication Committee to establish an association’s newsletter. The reasoning was simple – there had not been any kind of publication reporting on CHA activities or developments in the history profession since the CHA had stopped publishing its Annual Reports in 1969. The first Canadian Historical Association Newsletter/Bulletin de la Société historique du Canada was published late the following year. It shortened its name to the CHA Bulletin de la SHC in 1990, a title it retained until this year. /

À l’automne 1974, le conseil d’administration de la SHC a accepté la recommandation de son Comité de publication d’établir un bulletin d’information pour la société. Le raisonnement était simple - il n’y avait pas eu de publication sur les activités de la SHC ou sur l’évolution de la profession d’historien depuis que la SHC avait cessé de publier ses Rapports annuels en 1969. Le premier Bulletin de la Société historique du Canada / Canadian Historical Association Newsletter a été publié à la fin de l’année suivante. Son nom a été écourté en 1990 – à CHA Bulletin de la SHC, titre qu’il a conservé jusqu’à cette année.
