Abstract

If you are from Edmonton then you will not have much to say that is enthusiastic regarding this summer's climate, but then there is no need to call in the army. We had our own big storm in Aylmer, July the first, which was enough to bring down a sizeable branch in John’s back yard. Unfortunately there was no time for serious incident analysis, as Robert Darnton calls it, and John forgot to verify the tree’s gender and social pedigree (from a national history perspective).

Et nous avons évidemment fait le pèlerinage au tombeau de Louis Riel (près de la façade coupée de la cathédrale). Nous avons également contemplé, à proximité, cette statue de Riel que l'on cache des tendres yeux winnipegois, à Saint-Boniface. Et surtout nous nous sommes rendus sur place, rue Deschambault, à la maison de Gabrielle Roy, la demeure de cette loquace et moins que fragile « lumière de la terre ».
