Abstract

The CHA is a beehive of activity at this time of the year. The prize competitions are launched, the Nominating Committee solicits individuals willing to let their name stand for consideration in the CHA Council elections, and the 2019 membership campaign will begin in earnest in mid-November. In addition, the CHA is always looking to support historians, wherever they happen to be working and as such, will introduce a Contact Career Program in a few weeks that is closely modelled after that of the American Historical Association where the CHA will match senior historians who are working in the industry, the government or heritage institutions with junior historians to help facilitate the transition of graduate students who prefer to explore career paths outside of the professoriate.

La SHC bourdonne d’activités à cette période de l’année. Les concours de prix sont lancés, le Comité de mise en candidature sollicite les personnes qui veulent bien que leur nom soit proposé comme candidat à l’élection du Conseil d’administration de la SHC et la campagne d’adhésion 2019 débutera d’emblée à la mi-novembre. De plus, la SHC cherche toujours à appuyer les historiens, quel que soit leur lieu de travail, et mettra donc un programme de contact-carrière en place dans quelques semaines qui est inspiré de celui de l’American Historical Association, où des historiens qui travaillent dans l’industrie, le gouvernement ou des institutions du patrimoine seront jumelés avec des chercheurs émergents pour faciliter la transition des étudiants aux cycles supérieurs qui préfèrent explorer des cheminements de carrière autre que dans le corps professoral.
