Abstract: During the past year, numerous events have focused public attention on the right to privacy. Editorials and headlines have paid considerable attention to a Supreme court ruling limiting the right to photograph individuals in public places, and to a lengthy legal battle between author Pierre Turgeon and the heirs of a prominent Quebec businessman over the deceased’s right to privacy.

Abstract: Pendant la dernière année, les événements mettant en cause le droit à la vie privée se multiplient à un rythme effarant. Les médias font état de procès et de jugements touchant au droit à l’image et au droit de regard des héritiers sur la biographie d’une personne décédée. Industrie Canada ainsi que le Ministère québécois des Relations avec les citoyens et de l’immigration mènent des consultations et annoncent de nouvelles interventions législatives pour mieux réglementer la protection des renseignements à caractère personnel dans le secteur privé.
