Abstract: L’exécutif du Comité des étudiant(e)s diplômé(e)s s’est encore une fois renouvelé. C’est Olivier Côté qui, ayant été élu co-président au mois de juin, se retrouve aujourd’hui à la barre du CÉD aux côtés d’Alison Norman dont le mandat se terminera l’an prochain. Olivier est doctorant à l’Université Laval où il se spécialise dans la question des représentations identitaires dans les médias de masse; c’est sur la série télévisée Le Canada, une histoire populaire que se penche sa thèse. Jess Durkin remplace Josh MacFadyen et devient notre nouvelle trésorière. Jess termine actuellement sa maîtrise à l’Université Carleton où elle doit entamer un doctorat dès septembre. Elle prévoit rédiger une thèse sur la pratique et le sens changeants du canot-camping en Ontario. Le CÉD s’est également déniché un nouveau webmestre, Jonathan Crossen. Doctorant à l’Université de Waterloo dans le cadre du Tri-University History Program, celui-ci prépare une thèse portant sur l’histoire de l’internationalisme indigène depuis le Conseil mondial des peuples indigènes de 1975. Enfin, Heather Steel tire sa révérence en tant que Représentante des étudiants diplômés au Conseil de la Société historique du Canada, poste auquel j’ai l’honneur de lui succéder.

Title: Getting it right? An Historian among the Actors

Abstract: As an early modernist who also works in the field of public history, I am fascinated with attempts to recapture the past whether in living history re-enactments, films, early music concerts or on the stage. To find relevance for our present lives by exploring the way things were seems to me to be an important pursuit and so I get excited by well-researched period performances. So I happily accepted a chance to work with the National Art Centre’s English Theatre Company on its 2008 production of Macbeth.

Title: The Dissertation Register

Abstract: The Dissertation Register has been a project of the Canadian Historical Association since 1965, when it was started in co-operation with the Public Archives of Canada. The archives agreed to gather the information, and the CHA published the list annually. It was intended to encompass all dissertations being completed in all history departments in Canada. It included theses from other departments if they involved a degree of historical research and were of interest to the field of Canadian studies. It was to include only theses in progress, as completed dissertations were listed in a publication of the National Library. The purpose of the register was to avoid the duplication of research, and in the early stages, the editor of the list was actually supposed to contact researchers if it was clear that there was duplication of research.

Abstract: Clients of Library and Archives Canada who use our public research/consultation facilities at 395 Wellington will notice the presence of a new security desk on the third floor of this building as of January 21, 2008. This is one of several new security measures which were approved by Library and Archives Canada’s Management Board in 2007 and is intended to enhance the security for our collections, employees and visitors.; À partir du 21 janvier 2008, les clients de Bibliothèque et Archives Canada qui utilisent les installations publiques de recherche et de consultation du 395, rue Wellington, remarqueront la présence d’un nouveau comptoir de la sécurité au troisième étage. Il s’agit de l’une de plusieurs nouvelles mesures de sécurité que le Conseil de gestion de Bibliothèque et Archives Canada a approuvées en 2007 afin de mieux protéger ses collections,ses employés et ses visiteurs.
