Title: Exhibit at the Canadian Museum of Civilisation / Exposition au Musée canadien des civilisations

Authors: Roy, Patricia E.

Issue Date: 2020-01-16

Abstract: Despite being greatly overshadowed in history by the Hudson’s Bay Company which took it over in 1821, the North West Company has a better claim than its one time rival to the honour of creating a Canada from sea unto sea. Beginning in 1779, Montreal fur traders formed the North West Company, travelled
through the Great Lakes, crossed the prairie, touched the Arctic Ocean, explored and mapped the far west, and established a series of trading posts in what is now British Columbia. In a spectacular exhibit that ran from September 2009 to September 2010, the Canadian Museum of Civilization has given due credit to the Nor’Westers.

Abstract: The University of Amsterdam was ablaze with banner and pennants in aqua, white and red announcing the holding of the 21st ICHS / CISH in late August. Equally prominent were the student guides standing by pennants, directing the hundreds of enquiring
participants to venues or local sites. During the week from 22 -28 August 2010, Amsterdam hosted the Congress itself as well as a variety of conferences by organization such as the International Commission for
Historical Demography, the International Federation for Research in Women’s History
and the International Standing Conference of the History of Education.; L’Université d’Amsterdam était enjolivée de bannières et de banderoles vert-bleues, blanches et rouges annonçant la tenue
