Abstract: Three years ago, The Ontario Historical Society (OHS) celebrated a landmark anniversary by publishing the 100th volume of its scholarly journal Ontario History. Begun in 1899 under the title Papers and Records, the journal’s original mandate sought to publish and preserve rare documentary sources, encourage historical writing about the province, and stimulate interest in Ontario’s history. For the past 113 years, the publication has seen its share of ups and downs, but has remained a constant force for historical preservation, education and interpretation; a flagship of the OHS.

Abstract: On a very blustery October afternoon, I met with Dr. Cornelius Jaenen over several cups of coffee to talk about the role and activities of the CHA and to recall his time as its president (1988- 89). At the past annual general meeting, he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal as a past president. Dr. Jaenen continues to be a very busy member of the historical profession and he has been reserved as a key note speaker in 2017 in Antwerp to celebrate the opening of the Red Star Line Museum.; C’est par un après-midi très venteux d’octobre que j’ai rencontré le Dr Jaenen pour parler du rôle et des activités de la SHC et de sa présidence de la société en 1988-89 autour d’une tasse (ou deux) de café. Professeur Jaenen a reçu la Médaille du jubilée de diamant de la Reine Élizabeth II à titre d’ancien président lors de la dernière réunion générale annuelle. Dr Jaenen continue d’être un historien très actif dans la profession et il sera le conférencier d’honneur à Anvers en 2017 pour célébrer l’inauguration du musée Red Star Line.
