As has been noted before, live tweeting provides CHA members and the public not able to attend the annual meeting a chance to follow panels of interest and engage in debates and questions with historians. The findings were at once troubling and optimistic. Th e researchers found that as few as 1 in 10 PhD candidates go on to secure a college or university job, but they point out that Humanities PhDs have the ‘right stuff ’ for a plethora of careers outside academia. In order to help grads land those careers, they argue that departments will have to make significant changes to their PhD programs.; En décembre dernier, une équipe de professeurs et d’administrateurs en sciences humaines a publié une étude provocatrice sur l’avenir du doctorat en sciences humaines. Les résultats sont à la fois troublants et rassurants. Les chercheurs ont constaté qu’un seul doctorant sur 10 obtient un emploi dans un collège ou une université tout en soulignant que les doctorants en sciences humaines ont ‘ce qu’il faut’ pour faire carrière dans bien des domaines hors du milieu universitaire.
